PI EMS?

I have decided to go ahead and get the PI EMS hardwired unit. BUT... It will have to be inynstalled under the bed in my Greyhawk 30SS because that's were the electrical is, (fuses, breakers etc...) my question is... Has anyone ever experienced any humming from their EMS?

I have. The problem is the contactor is bolted directly to the plastic case, the solution is to float the contactor so any vibration can't be transferred to the case and radiate out. My Progressive EMS-HW30 lived under the sofa so this noise was quite audible and annoying. Unfortunately there's not enough room inside the case to do this so I removed the EMS guts and installed them in a larger plastic tool box that would allow me to float the contactor. A series of pics starts here.

  • Went with the PI PT30X unit and the coach 30A power cord plugs into it inside the external water/electrical bay. Then I added a second 30A extension cord that I run from there to the post/pedestal. Works fine, no issues, no noise that we can hear.

We've had 3 Different PI EWH-30 units on 3 different rigs and none of them made any noise whatsoever. They will tend to get a little warm so you may not want to bury them in some tight enclosed space. They need come clearance at least, but not a full blown ventilation system.

I'd say if one hums or makes noise thats the exception and not the norm.
