While I can see your point, in some cases I disagree. Effectively the pressure of a hydraulic is the same at each end no matter what the length, at least at the distances were talking here. The same is not true of voltage; so possibly to get enough current to run the pump you would have to increase the wire size. Depending on how much you have to increase the wire size, determined by the pump draw and the losses, it may be just as difficult to run as a steel line. I am all for keeping DC runs as short as possible.
