It is converted by the little Transformer that you plug into the wall that has a different sort of cord that you plug into the laptop. All major devices these days run on DC power. It is somewhat baffling to me that someone in technology doesn’t know this.
Well here is the issue. You dont really know what I have in my camper for one.. for two a laptop can take a hit right through the DC power supply. I have switches, secondary firewall/router for perimeter security, outdoor AP with built in yagi high gain (powered) antenna which runs off of poe, internal security monitoring devices etc. All of which run off of DC.. this doesnt matter..inverters are subject to surge and dirty power. A standard backup ups is ****. I use UPS's that run off the inverter full time so my equipment isnt subject to potential dirt during the switch event.
All of that said, Im mostly concerned with my water heater and AC. I can live without my microwave but lights are nice at night. They are all LED now so expensive to replace. I may run one of my UPS;s right on the coach inverter. UPS's I use have a very clean sign wave.
All of this said, I still think an isolator is a good idea. Memorial day the campground dug out huge fans and put them on all of their breaker panels. I was stupid and didnt pull out my multimeter. I bet it was below 110v at times.. Id really need something more sensitive like an oscilloscope to see short events.
Im probably still freaked out from the burned wire nut event and just need to settle down.
