- mike_kellieExplorer IIThis spring we lost the ability to keep batteries charged while traveling through SE Utah. Low voltage alarms on CO2 and other monitors chirped out the last amps and we went dark at one of the darkest places in the US (Bridges National Monument). On board generator wouldn't turn over so I pulled a truck battery out to jump batteries, start generator and retract legs. The diodes in solar controller had failed. Tough one to troubleshoot on the road but hookups the rest of the way allowed us to finish vacation.

Wowsa! Much sympathy! - mboppExplorerLeft for 4th of July weekend, got 10 miles down the I-90 Thruway in NY, and lost the fuel pump. TV & trailer got towed to the dealer but it was too late for them to look at the TV. I called DB & he let me borrow his 2500 D/A for the weekend. The saga continues - sideswiped a tree and busted one of his tow mirrors backing into the site. At least the sheet metal didn't get bent. OEM GM mirror was $400. Plus the fuel pump on my TV. It was an expensive weekend.
- DuctapeExplorerI was fortunate enough to spend part of my career working in and managing an industrial maintenance operation, so I learned the value of prevention. Most failures of a serious nature are foreseeable and preventable, or you can schedule the correction. So we've avoided significant delays.
I have also ruthlessly disposed of vehicles or components that exhibited lack of reliability.
Yes we have had some deviations and repairs on the road; fortunately I can do quite a bit myself and feel confident in choosing vendors when we need one.
One example I can share, we spent three days in Gettysburg once due to a blown intercooler. We were planning a stop there anyway, so we just extended it a day waiting for the new IC to arrive. The OEM part was known to be weak (plastic tanks!) so I had an aftermarket better part air shipped and changed it in the campground (with their approval of course). And back on the road again! - joshuajimExplorer IINot a camping trip, but a winter trip to Yosemite at the Ahwahnee Hotel (I refuse to call it by the new name due to the extortion attempts by Delaware North).
...any way, loaded up the car and headed out. Car died before the end of the driveway and wouldn't restart. Got the truck and pushed the car back to the house, transferred everything to the truck and left about an hour later. - Cloud_DancerExplorer III've got a few DC electrical problems in my Dutch Star (and all these years I've praised Newmar for me not having to deal with electrical problems). But, I'm not scared, Mexicowanderer and other forum members are helping me).
- rockhillmanorExplorer IIWisconsin to Florida for my first snowbird trip.
Got into Atlanta real late at night and pulled into gas station to fuel up. Standing there leaning against the MH fueling and I hear what sounds like a waterfall. I look down and the waterfall is gas pouring out from under my MH! :E
I stop fueling and the waterfall stops.
I tell the kid in the gas station he needs to put some of the soaking stuff out where I was fueling and I leave before hazmat gets there.
1:00 am and I was not about to turn back so I continued on. I would fuel up until the gas just started coming out underneath and I marked the fuel gauge on the dash where that point was and finished my trip only fueling up to the mark on my gas gauge. - Horizon170ExplorerThe Wife just had knee replacement surgery---------------is that a
Tech issue? Playing Nurse is no fun---------I have much more respect for Nurse's now.
Still haven't had a chance to try out the "New to us" RV.
Marvin - landyacht318Explorer2006, thanksgiving's friday. I was driving south on Mex1, at the first Tope south of Maneadero, My fuel pump quit, on the tope.
I drove to the side of the road with a can of fuel injector cleaner sprayed down the TB.
12 hours later I was on my Way again, new fuel pump from Ensenada, thanks to a local farmer/mechanic who had the tools and experience to drop the fuel tank, But we were both cursing up a storm in the dirt under the van trying to get the fuel lines back on with little access.
Still have same Fuel pump.
Hope your trip north goes smooth Mex, Sorry to hear it's necessary - NaioExplorer II

My heart goes out to folks who struggle and plan all year only to face bitter disappointment. I am away from my rig at the moment and I hate it. My vacation is yet another trip north. This time I am going to the ER direct. I would rather be in Patzcuaro Michoacan.
Oh, that does not sound like fun, Mex! What are they going to do at the ER, if you don't mind talking about it?
