It seems like any generator with remote electric start would work. I’m not sure I’d want to control it with a normally closed solenoid though. Power outages aren’t always a clean off/on event. Most standby generator controls will have some delay built in on both the startup and shutdown process.
If you haven’t already, you might check this product out. It’s intended for the common built in RV gen sets, like the Onan 5500. There’s no reason it couldn’t control a portable generator as well, as long as it’s electric start.
