Usually there are two or more wires to each battery post, so you need to collect them all as though they were on a post and connect the jumper clamp to that collection.
Eg, you might have only connected to the wire for the jacks or slide and not the rest of the rig.
I use vice grip pliers to hold several ring terminals together when they are not on a battery post. Jumper clamp on the vice grips.
