PRNDL Indicator repair

Does anyone know how to repair Transmission gear indicator when it doesn't point to proper gear. This is on a Ford F-53 class A motorhome from the year 2000. I do know that there is a recall on newer models, but not mine. Would like to repair myself if possible. Help!!!
  • Your gear indicator is just as important to have working CORRECTLY as say the brakes.

What if SOMEONE ELSE like a spouse, son, daughter needs to move the RV?

X2 When I bought my MH, I had not driven one before. The gear indicator on mine is off by about 1/2 a gear. Consequently, I drove the 50 miles home in 2 instead of D. I thought I had made the worst mistake of my life, as the Tach read 4000 RPM at 55 mph. Luckily I didn't blow up the engine or transmission.

I look forward to seeing the answer to this question. I would love to have my PRND21 indicator accurately indicate which gear the transmission is in.

    Alright.

I nominate this answer as THE MOST STUPID EVER!

Perhaps the BETTER answer would be seek out a mechanic or perhaps get the service manual for the chassis?

But really posting drivel about counting is not the "fix".

To the OP, If I remember correctly the indicator is operated via a cable. Most likely the cable broke, or is hung up or even has disconnected from one end or the other. Really hard to diagnose via 'net. This is why a service manual would be helpful.

I wish I could help more but I have never had this issue...
