Yes, they are working perfectly,, Without 12 volts (Which the lights eat) the thermostat can not command the air conditioner to condition air. Thus the problem is loss of 12 volts.
Suspects include 12 volt fuses, the converter, and the battery.
Broken wires and bad connections are also on the list.
A TEST LAMP (this is a thing you can find in the auto parts stores and some auto departments, Looks like an ice pick (If you remember those) with a clear or translucent handle and a wire sticking out of the handle) is very helpful in tracking this kind of a thing.
