Problem With Dometic Refrig Model 2862 UPDATE

My Dometic refrig model #2862 faulted out on gas today. Tried to reset it. Will not run on gas. OK on electric. I wanted to check the gap on the electrode. Removed it to clean and check gap the electrode wire is lose. The spark end. It move inside it insulated housing. Is that normal? I thought it would be tight and you would have to bend the electrode wire to get your gap setting. I can hear a click when it tries to start but no flame. I have gas, the stove and water heater works and battery power is good plugged into shore power. Time for new electrode? Thanks Gary

  • Well I got a few minutes this morning to check out the gas valve. I as able to get it fire off with one of those gas grill lighter. Ran good that way. So I am going to check the grounds out at the burner tube back to the control board. Then if thing check out OK, I will order a new board. And see how that goes.

Even if the gas valve does not open you should hear the "tick ... tick ... tick " of the electrode spark about once per second until "trial for ignition" times out ... about 30 seconds.

After the first click that should be the gas valve opening, can you light it with one of those grill lighters?

Guess I will have to put the DVM on the wires to the gas valve and see what I get. Have not tried to manually do that yet. If the weather work with me, I may try that is weekend. I do not hear the ticks for the spark or see any spark. I do hear on Click than after a while a few light tic. After that a heavy click which is the gas valve closing? After that, the fault light goes on.

  • Clean the contacts on the board with CAIG De-Oxit D100. Just got through trying to clean contacts on a new electric griddle down here at the store and rubbed with a white eraser until I was blue in the face. Would not even flicker the switch on. Got disgusted, drove 4-miles to the house grabbed the D100 and one stupid drop of red liquid later the contacts functioned perfect. When it worked again this morning Eduardo called the customer and she was one happy camper.

Dry the ceramic on the sparking electrode with 100% pure alcohol. I just now did the plug on this laptop and raised charging amperage from 2.13 to 2.44
  • Is the gap correct should be spark on the electrode. Pull the plug on the circuit board and clean the contact points on the board with an eraser.
  • Well I installed the new electrode, did not help. Still going to fault on gas. It keeps cool on electric. I check both fuse and they are OK. I can not see a spark on the electrode? Should I see one. I can hear a click on the gas valve. But not seeing vapor going to the burner or smelling gas? It has a #58 Jet. Next step? Jet? Control board? Or gas valve? Guess I a luck I am home and have shore power for now to run the refrig. Any help would be great.
  • I had that electrode come loose inside the ceramic insulator. A spot of crazy glue kept it in place until I could get a new electrode.

Thanks OB. New electrode is on order. Will keep the Refrig on electric until I have the part I need.
