procedure for applying wax and 303 Protectant?

It's finally time to wax the TT and apply 303 protectant as our first camping trip is a week away. Have not used 303 protectant before and am wondering what the recommended application process is?

Should I spray the 303 directly onto all the decals and graphics and not worry about overspray onto the fiberglass, then wax over everything?

Or, should I spray 303 onto a rag then wipe the decals/graphics and minimize getting 303 onto the fiberglass?

Or wax over everything first then apply the 303?

Also, I noticed that some of the black metal exterior parts like the stair assemblies have fading paint (after less than a year!) Would 303 be good to put on the metal or is there a better choice?

  • Well, I got it done yesterday. Our TT is light grey with black trim, vents, etc and now it REALLY pops. :) But now my arms feel like they are going to fall off. :(

I ended up using a microfiber rag and spraying the 303 onto it. Pretty straightforward but not that easy to keep 100% on the graphics, especially when it narrows down to like 1/4" in some spots and where there is lettering. I bought the large spray bottle and it looks like it will last a very long time. The 303 wipes sound like a good idea and didn't know they make them.

I'm using Mothers synthetic marine wax and it was pretty easy - just a lot of time-consuming area. It's impossible not get get a little overlapping wax on the decals and graphics, but I assume it can't really hurt anything and the important thing is to get the 303 down first.
  • I think that 303 is one of the best products out there for decals and tires. I apply it by spraying a rag...then wipe down the decals and try to stay in the lines!! My decals look nearly new when I sold my rigs and I attribute it to using it often. I avoid waxing the decals.

  • 303 does make a wipe that is easier to use than the liquid when treating decals. It comes in a container and the wipes pop up as you pull on them. That is what I use. Much easier. I found them on Amazon.
  • I used to use 303, but its like pouring milk on it and about as effective.

I put the 303 on a rag then wipe it on the decals, then wipe completely off. Just follow the instructions, it's pretty simple. A little goes a long way.
  • I have used 303 for many years on boat vinyl and vehicle interiors but I find it a bit sloppy to apply to the stickers on my 5er. It runs, streaks and really looks like poop after it goes on. Really wish they made it in a different form than liquid. Something like a wax or paste that you can wipe off. I'm currently using a sponge style mop to apply to the stickers on my 5er as it beats lugging a ladder all the way around. I also hit everything on the roof with it.
  • Spray on cloth and wipe decals. Foam paint brush...spray on brush and do all the exposed vinyl and rubber seals. Spray on tires, wipe with a throw away terry cloth rag...rubber gloves advised for this part.

    Go campin' :) :)
