Learning a lot from that patent link from that other thread. Schematics of the whole thing there. Anyway, it seems like the other likely fail point is the power FETs (Bipolars in Mex’s world) that do the switching. If one of those shorts out, you get a direct short from the bridge DC output (red wire) to ground. They’re Q2a and Q2b in the schematic here and are physically on the heat sink next the the rectifier.
