Propane smell inside oven

There's a thread which is very useful not not quite applicable to my case: "Propane smell inside trailer...how to best diagnose?"

There is a slight propane smell inside the oven when the pilot is lit but none anywhere when the pilot is off.

What should I look for?

I do that. Is that a problem?
  • Look at the end of the pilot tube. Many have a small "deflector" it could have been hit so the pilot is not burning all the propane.

  • If no one else has a good answer, this might be a question for youtube.
  • It smells with just the pilot going (though I think it also smells when the pilot is on and burner tube is lit).

Is the pilot the only thing lit, or are you cooking in the oven?
  • There is no smell when the pilot is first lit; it accumulates after 2-3 minutes. As long as the pilot is lit, the smell remains; it goes away after the pilot is turned off.

There is no smell at the valve ever.
  • ^Agree... also with pilot burning, a leak inside oven, would also ignite, if there was one.

In any case, best not put nose/head inside oven with, or without pilot burning.

  • It could be simply the slight bit that comes out before it's lit.
