I'm not all in favor of "corn squeezen's" in my gasoline but I've had a near 40 yr history of E-10 and small engines. I also have pumped ethanol from ADM to Koch refinery facilities so have handled the distillate in it's purest state.
To date, I have never seen a fuel problem related TOTALLY to Ethanol. Long term storage or open air introduction into the fuel system is where most problems lie. FWIW, at one time, I serviced and repaired a fleet of 125 small engines. I also ran a small engine repair business for a few years.
Having said the above, not ALL E-10 is the same. The local distributor is who mixes the blend and certain areas of the country seem impacted by E-10 more than others. The West stands out, to me, as an area having the most complaints. If I lived there, I would buy E-10 and use fuel stabilizers as the cure. Storing gas for longer than 6 months can lead to many problems.
