Question on slide out workings

I have the 5th wheel in my signature. The problem I am having is the slide out sometimes sticks either going out or in. All it takes is for someone to push against the slide in the direction you want it to go and then it takes off and travels the rest of the way without any issue.

I have lubed everything underneath with slide lubrication spray and while this seems to have helped somewhat it has not resolved the issue. It's not a problem when my wife and or kids go with me but I recently went out on a short trip by myself. Fortunately the slide worked without issue.

It is an electric slide not hydraulic and I am careful to use only the slide lubrication so it does not collect dirt etc.

Is there anything else that I can do to help this issue?

Thanks!

  • If it's not a wiring problem look around carefully for signs of water intrusion that sometimes makes the trim swell and bind. If you crank the slide by hand at least one full cycle (all the way in to all the way out and back again) you will be able to tell exactly where it's binding and work from there.
  • Had a similar problem. Slide would stop 2 or 3 times going in or out.
There is an automatic reset relay mounted near the motor on my slide mechanism. It looks like a fuse. I replaced the 15 amp relay with 20 amp and it fixed the problem. The RV tech where I purchased the new relay told me that the manufacturers seem to put 15 amp fuses in places that draw more as the unit wears. Also said to be sure to use Seal Lube on the slide gaskets to make it slide easier. Be sure your wiring can support 20 amps. Mine was good for 30.
  • If you have no instruction manual, you'll have to call the slide mfgr. for assistance or download the specific manual from their website if they have one. For example, I know my Lippert mechanism info is download-able from their website complete with adjusting instructions. It sounds as though your slide needs an adjustment, but without instructions I doubt you can successfully solve your problem.
