Questions: self drilling/ tapping screws for chassis work

I'm getting ready to install my underbelly cover -- there will be aluminum C channel beams (to support the foam panels and the coroplast under-skin) attached to the underside of the trailer's frame me...

This photo shows the difference between self-tapping and self-drilling screws. There is no way that you will be able to drive a self tapping screw into structural steel without drilling a pilot hole first.
