Questions: self drilling/ tapping screws for chassis work

I'm getting ready to install my underbelly cover -- there will be aluminum C channel beams (to support the foam panels and the coroplast under-skin) attached to the underside of the trailer's frame me...

I've used self drilling screws to attach stuff to the TT frame, and they work great, especially with a small pilot hole, just enough to keep the screw from trying to skate.
