Quick connect exterior shower hose doesn't connect.

I have a hose like this in my services cabinet. I can't plug the brass connector into the quick release connector. It's been getting worse over the years but now it doesn't work at all. Lubricant...

    Before I saw these replies I decided I needed to make up a method. So I took the hose to my shop and ran my Dremel sanding disk all over the brass part. That came out looking a bit rough so I got a strip of emery paper and went after the rough bits by rubbing the strip over the brass. It looked pretty good but I decided to put a daub of o-ring grease on the thing.

    I won't say it was easy but the connector plugged in. There was no leakage. It came out much more easily.

    So my RV is winterized for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

I have the same type of connection on my RV and have the same difficulties plugging into the coupler. Unfortunately I know of no easy solution. The only real solution is to get to the back of the coupler on the inside of the RV and replace the connector (presumably with something better). I would consider putting a small utility connection box on the side of my trailer - similar to the ones the use for washing machines in houses.
