IMHO, I recommend doing the reverse of starting with solar ... start with a quiet/small generator and add solar later.
This is because solar is more "specialized" in that it requires the sun to be out and to be camped in it. A generator does not require the sun.
Then add solar after you have a great battery/inverter/generator system in place as a baseline setup.
If you have the $$$, knowledge, and time ... then of course add both at the same time.
(We have never added solar because of it's limitations. But if we do ever add it, it will be via portable panels so we don't have to park in the sun.)
