Yes Adjusting the brakes should help. Our new fiver needed an adjustment bad. I figure the delivery of the unit seated them and I adjusted them and made a big difference. A new set of brakes would be the same, though I would think if they were adjusted properly when replaced they should work fairly effectively even though they were not wore in.
