Reciever wobbles

I use one of these to tighten up ball mount.

I put a small bead of weld on 2 sides then grind them down to a snug fit. Paint and good to go.

Some bike racks (and I assume other things) use an anti-wobble pin system where the pin is actually a specialized bolt and there's a corresponding nut welded onto the passenger side of the tube. You tighten the pin with a wrench so that the nut binds the tube against the receiver, and then slip a safety clip onto the other end of the pin (which isn't threaded) like a normal pin. The system works quite effectively at greatly reducing the wobble.

Some sort of a wedge would probably work as well but removal might be tricky. I'd be tempted to try a piece or two or three of cedar shake or something along those lines if I didn't intend to remove the rack anytime soon.

I like this idea!

You need a good anti rattle device so you don't get so much play in the receiver.

I have tried almost every Anti Rattle device on the market, most have been no good or so complicated and cumbersome that they are useless. Including the Roadmaster type,totally useless.
Until I found the one at Hitch Rider.

Their Hitch Vice is the best and easiest one I have come across and it really works.

I tried a few anti-rattle devices. Hitch Vise was the best one for me.

Had a similar issue with a Rola storage box I added to my Roadtrek 2 years ago. Same idea, box mounted to the rear of the vehicle with a 2" hitch shank, into the 2" receiver on the class IV hitch. Noticed the wobble almost immediately upon leaving the point of purchase.

I just stopped at the first Walmart I saw (or any other hardware type store) and picked up some zinc plated flat washers of varying thickness because I wasn't sure what thickness I would need. The ones I got come in 1 3/8" outside diameter, and can be inserted down one side of the shank inside the receiver. Get someone to gently rock the ramp/platform for the scooter back and forth and slip one of the washers in between the shank and the receiver. I managed to get one in on the side (washer situated vertically). I had to tap it lightly with a flat blade screwdriver and hammer, to get it started and then it seated itself after some more coaxing. Then use a 10" or longer cable tie wrapped around the shank as close as possible to the receiver, to keep it from falling out. There may be better options for this issue.
Total cost, if I recall correctly, was around $0.09 for the zinc plated (stainless steel would also work) washer, and maybe a few cents for the cable tie?
No more wobbling storage box.
The hard part is getting a washer that will fit snugly, but that you can still insert with relative ease. I had to trial and error it twice before finding a good fit.

Drill a hole through the receiver and weld a nut over it. Thread a bolt through it to tighten against the draw bar. We use this method to stop our bike rack from flopping around and it works perfectly.
