Recommend a DC current clamp meter

Hello.
I want to purchase an inexpensive clamp meter for DC current to do occasional checks on the battery charging/discharging status. I was surfing Amazon and happily putting items in my Wish List to review later when I realized while looking more closely at the details that most meters seem to only read AC current. I want DC current and my price range would probably be <$50. Can I get some recommendations and hopefully some links? Thanks.

  • You can't get what you want. I've never seen any DC clamp meter for that low of a price. They are simply more expensive to build.
I have two, an Amprobe and an Ideal. I prefer the Amprobe but they both work. Fluke is certainly top of the line when it comes to meters but they are more money.
Congratulations on reading the fine print. I've seen people before buy any old clamp meter and then wonder why it doesn't work on DC.
I'm in the solar energy business so I probably use the DC function more than the AC.
  • Sears has one that many people have recommended but I think it costs about $70 or so.

EDIT: I checked the Sears site and the cost is $78.
