When the brakes are hit the VR ramps up output to put the extra load of alternator making another 40+ amps on engine, only then. Manufacturers do not care if the starter battery takes a dump in 2 years. they worry about those C.A.F.E regulations and getting their fleet average MPG number up.
This is kind of like using super thin oils like the recently introduced 0w-16, for a 0.001 mpg increase.
Could that be considered a form of regenerative braking? I remember seeing a reference to that in one of the DC-DC charger instruction guides, but didn’t quite understand how that was a factor on a normal ICE powered vehicle. I thought that was just a hybrid or EV thing.
