Refrigerator coolant unit

Has anyone ever replaced their refrig. coolant unit. Our refrig has leaked a little coolant. We have spoken to a few people and they say give it a week and it won't work at all. We planned on using our TT another year and don't want to invest in a new refrig.

what do you think?
  • Just went through this last week. After many dealers telling me I needed to replace my Dometic fridge because the cooling coils leaked, and that was going to be by no means cheap. I figured I would do some research myself. I did find many options, there are a lot of companies offering rebuilt coils but I was hesitant on them because I want to keep my rig for a while without future issues with the fridge. The warranty on the rebuilt coils for the most part wasn't as good as the new aftermarket ones. I found two companies that offer new coils, the amish company and a company called arcticold. The deciding factors for me was price and warranty. So after calling arcticold and they explained to me that is was quite easy to change the unit, I decided to buy one of their lifetime warranty units. Anyways long story short, got the unit within 3 days and install went great (yes I read the instructions), fridge is working excellent now. Let me tell you one thing, I understand why they can put a lifetime warranty on it. Is is HEAVY DUTY compared to the one that I took out.
  • The toughest thing about changing mine was popping the oem unit loose but the instructions with the rebuilt unit were excellent and showed exactly where to position the pry bar. Craig
  • Talk to David Force at "rvcoolingwarehouse.com" He sells the Amish units and will help you with all kinds of information. I had my 4 door Norcold redone with one of the Amish units for about a half the cost of a new fridge. The repalcement unit was much more substantial than the original and the cooling performance much better. The re and re took about two hours.

    Good Luck
  • I would have liked to see the amish unit to compare but I cant complain about my decision, $580 to my door and a lifetime warranty. Check them out the company name is Arcticold
  • Articold is an unknown. I would stay away from this type of company. They do not list an address on heir website nor who makes their cooling units nor how they are constructed. That warranty might not be worth the paper it is printed on. Stick with a known company. David Force ( seller of Amish units) will talk to you on the phone and answer any questions even if you are not buying his units. He has an excellent reputation.

They've been around for years- website since 2008, and the company 12 years before that. They are just now starting to expand in to the US market.
  • They told me that they were just getting into the US and have inventory in Maine,Atlanta, and Texas. Mine came from Maine. They have been selling in Canada for quite a while. They are the manufacturer. They build the entire unit from scratch like the amish do. I can really only tell you that the system looked great, was much heavier then the original, great phone support and instructions, and it is working great. cheers!
  • Articold of New Brunswick, Canada is a bad company. Bought a unit which didn't work, replacement lasted 51 weeks. Matt and Steve (son and father) refused to honor warranty or return phone, text and emails. New Brunswick, CA have 17 complaints with BBB. Look elsewhere for a good company.

Nucold of Arkansas is another bad company. Do yourself a favor and complete a Google search on then. Dozens of bad reports. Their unit failed and they will not return my money.

So turn it off and use an ice chest. Selling might be a bit of an effort. Plan to deduct the repair cost. At least sell the buyer that the warranty will be in his name (and his problem) as you send him down the road. Not sure what happens if you do not disclose the issue on a trade in.
