Refrigerator issue

We have a 2003 Four Winds travel trailer,
I have Norcold N611 , we just bought it and opened it up this week. We put the setting on “auto” and the “on” indicator, lights.
After a couple of hours the freezer is at 40 degrees and the fridge is at 70 degrees. So I leftit on and when we goback in a couple of days , we will see if it is coder, but any ideas or suggestions on why it is not getting cold?
Thanks Barry

  • Is this your 'first time' :B

Absorption fridges have to boil the ammonia into a hot vapor which has to be condensed into a cool liquid which then supercools when it comes into contact with the hydrogen gas.
Then it flows thru freezer Low temp evap coil absorbing the heat---until freezer is cold the cool ammonia can not absorb any more heat from food compartment High temp evap coil

Once freezer temps drops to 10*F then the food compartment can be cooled below 40*F

This takes TIME....12 hrs or better on initial startup

One other point......do NOT operate fridge when stationary unless LEVEL
WILL cause overheating issues and obstructions in cooling unit
  • After just a couple of hours, that is about what you can expect. Give it at least 24 hours.
  • Freezer will always get cold first. That is inherent in the design of an amonia fridge.
