Relacing Stairs

We needed to replace our stairs so we purchased a new set that appeared to be a even replacement. When we installed the new stairs we did not believe we needed new outriggers as the ones that were left from the old set of stairs appeared fine. After testing the new stairs the bolt attaching the outrigger does not appear to be sitting correctly so we would like to fix that issue. However, we are stuck. The outrigger mounting bracket that is connected to the rig appears the it is attached to the floor of the camper. The bolts comes from a location we can not see and enters down through the hole in the outrigger. To change out the outrigger brackets We must access the top of that bolt so we acn remove the old and install the new. There is no viewable access point and tearing up the floor seems crazy and the location we purchased the stairs states there has to be a way without touching the floor. However, they are not sure. We have a 2015 Wildcat 5th wheel.
  • You could use a angle grinder to cut off the installed bolt. But installing new ones might involve getting a welder to attach a couple of studs. You can't just take the nuts off of the installed bolts? And then reuse those for the new outriggers? How much exposed thread do you see?
  • Do the threads stick out enough that you can double nut the end of the threads to hold and stop the bolt from turning while you crack the mounting nuts loose? Then just unscrew the nuts by hand and reverse for reassembly.

Double nutting is when you screw two nuts onto a threaded surface and then tighten the nuts very tightly against each other. This locks the nuts onto the threads and will work as if they were a solid bolt head.
