I have flooded batteries.
It's a converter/charger ... my bad.
I have a DVM and last year I installed ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-120V-100A-Voltage-Current-Ah-Time-Meter-Battery-Charge-Discharge-AGM-SLA-LEAD-/180957166631?hash=item2a21e33c27
Lastly, I agree that my "understanding of this subject is clearly limited" and I understand that. But, I also know when to ask for help. My limitation is on the RV charging and storage system and what to do about it. Once I understand what needs to be done and how to do it, I have no problems with the install (I was an auto mechanic for 12 years) and car/trucks don't have anything like this.
If I installed a Boondocker BPCM-75; Progressive Dynamics PD9270C (with remote pendant) or Mex's Megawatt thing, how do I charge the batteries?
- While on shore power (at home or campsite with power). Do I turn off the new converter/charger, the one that's up front, and use the converter/charger that's in the "factory location"?
- While on the generator. This is the one where I'm lost and need help in understanding how to charge the batteries.
- And what's "equalization" and how do I do this with 2 (or 4) 6v gf batteries?
For 20 years we camped like I think most people do. Unplug from the house, drag the RV to a campsite and plug it back in to use electricity like there's no tomorrow! If I noticed the lights didn't work if we lost power at the campsite, at some point get around to replacing the battery with the same type the dealer installed (Interstate G24) and go about my business the same as before.
But, around 2-3 years ago we started boondocking more (more like campgrounds without hookups) but we're starting to go to "primitive" campsites now. And all of a sudden, I need to watch what we use and figure out how to replace what we use.
This is one of the reasons I'm on this forum.
