BFL13 - wow, that's so simple. I really like simple.
How do I recharge this way? People keep saying 14.XX volts but for how long on the generator? I don't want to boil the batteries to death.
Right now I have (2) 6v batteries. Does it change how I use the charger if I have 4?
The price difference between the 45-60-75 amp units is $20. Which one is a better fit for my set up?
Lastly, I can't find a user manual online. Anyone have even a basic step by step guide?
The 75. But only get the adjustable voltage one so you can get the right voltage for your batts and it will stay at 14.8 till the 50-90 is done. Only install it up front if you can reach the adj knob. I prefer to leave it portable so you can also use it for your car or whatever.
Two 6s can easily handle 75 amps of charging. The practical limit is about 33% charging rate. Initial charging amps/battery bank AH = charging rate percentage. So 75/232 = 32 percent, good to go. More battery bank same charger just lowers the charging rate and takes longer of course.
On generator you don't recharge all the way, just to 80 or 90 percent since it takes too much gen time to get that last 10 percent in. Called doing a 50-80 or a 50-90. Here are typical times. Double the times if you double the battery AH but you don't halve the time by doubling the intial amps--diminishing returns on that as you can see. (my "ugly graph" gets used again! :) )
