$1.75/W installed? I'd pay that! I was quoted at least a $1/W more here.
If you're like me, you would be eyeing up a couple of cheap Solar Blvd. pallet loads at $.80/Watt, delivered. Added to the module cost is the mounting racks, the inverters, wire, sundry hardware, and possibly a larger residential load center to comply with codes. Also, new meter socket and disconnect switch, required by the utility. Assuming $4K beyond the price of the modules for the bits and NO labor, the cost is just North of that $1.75/watt incentive. If I'm able to take the Federal 30% credit, it will be slicker than sliced bread (on paper). In my case, unfortunately, I have some siting issues and will have to trench in wire to accommodate a ground mount system and the additional expense of that. Again, not a free lunch but it does make economic sense for me.
Three items that are incalculable are future rise in rates, benefit of not paying property tax on the installation, future value to the home should my heirs decide to sell.
Besides, how am I going to charge that new electric car (I wish)?:B
