Better keep in mind that a water pump manufactures more spikes than a blackberry bush. It's the nature of the beast. Inductive reaction. It won't hurt the contacts in a power control circuit, but it can ("can" is not strong enough) play havoc with control circuits. When that pump shuts off under a 15 amp load, WOW!
I'll short circuit the inevitable "Oh, there's a switch!"
It's the NEGATIVE oriented transients I worry about. Where's *that* switch? Ain't one.
