Me thinks fire or sparks of any sort would be opening up oneself to an explosion! As for me, not knowing much about mechanics .. I would simply purchase a new battery .. but not before I check with the manufacturer to see if it's warranted in some way or fashion. It never hurts to ask .. when attempting to save money. But don't gamble with ones safety or life with regards to a blow torch on battery terminals.
