Yes, good point to check for heat. Easy to do hard to remember to do it!
Plan B involved a piece of copper water pipe banged flat and clamped to the post with vice (locking) pliers (or even screwed onto the post), where the other end of the copper has a hole drilled in it to hold nut and bolt for ring terminals on wires. Kind of a copper pig tail idea. That is more elegant (!) than plan C, which I haven't decided yet.
I really like that one earlier using a tap, but don't have a set in the old tool box. I remember using one in "metal work" class in high school :) Not sure if it would twist out when turning the nut. The real bolt has a star shaped head in the star shaped hole so it won't spin.
The problem with "real" post clamps is that on the peculiar 6s' posts, they don't go on right and you can't do much with them expanding and squeezing, the jaws are too fat.
The funny zinc ones seem to allow lots of play, and they have an opening that will work with getting them on the 6s' posts (I hope!---not all 6s' posts are the same so I have to get back to the trailer and see)
