Replacing Aqua Magic IV with Dometic 310 Question

Sounds like they've got the same model we have if they have the walk-in closet in the nose. We love our Windjammer, no issues.

We camped for years in a Motorcycle bunkhouse trailer and loved it but getting older we are seeking a bit more comfort so the used Newmar 5th wheel was an affordable option. We still use the motorcycle camper as we just camped out a week in it last week as our 5th wheel is stored in Colorado. The big rigs shutter when we come in pulling our 4X6ft cycle trailer and then expands to a king size bed with 6ft square living area. As long as you're sleeping off the ground, tent life can be good too.

Our new Rockwood Windjammer came with the Dometic 310 too and it's been working fine for about a year and a half. Our old trailer had the cheapest plastic Thetford they make and that one worked perfectly for 10 years when we sold the trailer to friends.

You might want to do a Google search on the Dometic 310. It has a history of leaks between the porcelain bowl and plastic base. You cannot fix it per Dometic. I had one in a 2012 and it leaked from the start. Dealer worked on it twice and finally I just replaced it with a Thetford AM Plus unit. This is also a porcelain unit. The factory replaced the Dometic 310 which is stored in my outbuilding back home.

The wife determined what we would put back in. She wanted the Dometic 310 due to the ceramic bowl. I've read that many have been happy using the 310 over the plastic toilets. STOP VALVE!!! YES!!! I added one to ours and am very glad I did. In our case the Valve used about the same length of PEX as the height of the Pedestal, so I only had to cut once. The AM-IV uses a vertical supply line, so all I needed was about 2-in of UP direction.

Thanks for all the answers. The Dometic is 3&9 position. I've been searching installation PDF's of Thetford AQ IV's and V's and I think I'm going to be Okay with your answers doing the swap over without 20 trips to town. Yes my water connections are different and I'll have to cut my water supply line off and make a change in my water supply connection. But, that will give me a chance to add a stop valve for the toilet for easier repairs next time..
Hopefully when I arrive next year I'll have everything on hand and I can have the old toilet out and the new one in, in a relative short time frame.

The "310" it seems to be a porcelain home-size toilet. We have the AquaMagic IV, which is about the cheapest thing out there. It's supposedly the "high" version but still needs a "pedestal" to be "chair height" like home ones. Cheap as it is, it's been trouble free.

The Dometic is a question mark to me- it is porcelain, which is nice, but it is glued together, and basically not repairable, other than a main seal, water valve and vacuum breaker. If any part of the mechanism fails, it's new toilet time.
One the one hand, the price is far less than the fully repairable Sealand, on the other, it's basically disposable.I prefer the 320, which uses a full sized elongated seat and lid.

As far as mounting pattern- the old Thetford Galaxy/Startlight models were oddballs, with bolts at ~11 and 5, Sealand uses 4 bolts at ~10:30, 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 , most new models are 3 and 9, though Thetford Aria actually is 3 and 9 but screws in to the floor, well outside the mounting flange.

Is the Dometic that much better than Thetford? Or based on RV repairman's preference? Just curious. Thetford seems easy to work on and repair.
