Replacing Fuel Injectors 8.3 Cummins (CAPS System)

Any one replaced their injectors? I hadn't worked on injectors in a while and was interested in what had to be removed to get the injector out? Specifically, does the fuel line in the side of the head need to be removed(Banjo nut connection)?

  • The video is very informative. The part about removing the line from the injector pump to the Banjo nut on the head was my question/concern. It has to come out first. The video wasn't clear as to how it interfaces with the fuel injector. I will watch and listen again, but it appears that the fuel node through the side of the head (call it a fuel node for lack of a better term) only sits snuggly against the injector. Should be some sort of a seal with the high pressure, but it didn't show one. Thanks for the u-tube site. Still not sure I want to tackle this project. Cummins labor cost is $400 to $600 dollars, and a set of rebuilt injectors $900 ($150 ea. w/tax).
  • I swapped out the head on my 8.3. I ended up pulling all the lines & removed all 6 injectors. Disassembly & reassembly went real well. A small brass washer/seal at the bottom of each injector. Torque to specs.
