Replacing handle on my Awning strut

Question

I broke the little pin on the awning strut lift handle and need to install a new handle.
It is riveted .
Has anyone replaced one, and if you did, can you rivet it with out taking the strut apart from the roller ?

I went to an rv place and got one off a junked awning for a buck. An easy fix with a pop rivet gun.

Can you use a bolt with a nylon core nut instead?  If you want to get fancy, you can use stainless steel.

Part comes with pop rivet 3/16 very easy repair as long as you have a pop rivet gun drill and drill bit.
