Reviving The Dead Jim In Denver MEGAWATT

Dang! I didn't look at this when I had the Megas apart.

But if the bi-polar transistors have failed, if it is feasible, and relevant, I would HOPE that replacing regular bipolar transistors with insulated gate bi polar transistors would be possible.

Is it possible to substitute without the need of changing basic circuit design or are the gate characteristics and values incompatible?

What else have I to do but try and improve the Megawatt?

  • It's still soaking up Chula Vista fluorescent lighting at the UPS Store. My guess is the BiPolar transistor control circuit fried. If so the varnish on the inductors should have become darker and the transistors passed into semiconductor heaven. If the electrolytics assumed the shape of a coke bottle, and the full wave bridge rectifier looks like a porcupine it means an extensive rebuild job.
  • Did you get it Mex? How bad is it? Please tell me it wasn't just some fuse I missed.
