The magnum is not the only hybrid capable inverter out there.
I am using an Outback gfx1312 in my Host, with 4x6v (2p by star config), and along with a 2100VA Powerhouse generator, I am able to run it in 100+ degree heat, and keep up the batteries. What the GFX does is absorb the startup surges and protects the generator from them. Works pretty nifty actually! I went this so on short overnight trips, we can run the microwave and not worry about dealing with a generator (and with 320 watts of solar on the roof, we have yet to run out of battery juice..)
I have also been doing this for close to 2 year now; when I bought the GFX, it was not UL listed, now it is.
