Our first RV had a Standing Pilot Water Heater WITH an AC element as well. Our rooftop Air Conditioner (A/C) was 13500 and we could run "all electric." Water Heater, A/C, and we could Microwave and make Coffee.
RV we have now has a bigger A/C and thankfully the Water Heater is DSI. In extreme hot/humid weather (in FL we call it Summer) we can't use electricity on the WH on our 30A service. Sometimes we can do some load shedding. A/C (and Converter/Charger) plus ONE other high-amp appliance. WH, Microwave, Coffee Pot, Toaster, Waffle Iron etc.
The good news is that if I turn the WH on in LP mode with that DSI switch when we sit down for a meal, there's plenty of hot water for dishes and on into the evening. It'd take more than that for showers, but we use the campground for that.
Standing Pilot Water Heaters are a pain! I didn't realize how bad till we got DSI.
