RV travel

I have an Atwood HE – 0601 fridge. It works great no issues. I just have a question about traveling with the refrigerator on LP is that OK to do? I’ve never done it before but I’m taking a long trip and wanted to leave the refrigerator running while traveling for 10 hours on the road.

  • I am another that lets the propane run the fridge when I am traveling.  I will shut it down in the truck camper when I am fueling as it is close to the gas tank, but the 5th wheel is over the distance away that is restricted for smoking so I don't worry about it.  the 5th wheel just works, the truck camper gets blowen out once and a while, which was a common issue and aparently you can build a baffle to stop the wind gusts from blowing it out but I haven't go around to it yet.

of course you have to respect places that say "no propane on" like ferries and some tunnels

  • I also run it on propane when on the road. Have been doing so since 2005.

I've always ran the refrigerator on propane while on the road, never an issue.  Depending on the burner and any shields in place, you may have to block part of the vent if it won't stay lit while on the road, but that's another problem I've never had but others have.

  • Yes, it's fine. We've been RVing for 30+ years, trailers, Motorhomes, never had a problem. I am sure that the majority of RV's traveling down the road are doing the same. You should expect to hear the opposite from the over cautious, gloom and doom, naysayers though,,,,
