screw heads popping up under rubber roof

Has anybody solved the problem of screw heads roof popping up thru rubber roof? I'm not sure if this happening because of poor workmanship or what. Has not happened on any other RV we've owned.

I see about 3 screw heads poking up. Really don't want to cut rubber roof to screw back in tight, but is there any other choice? They haven't punched thru the rubber roof yet but getting close.

How are they supposed to be installed in the first place? Just screwed in or should there be little bit of glue to keep them tight and in place so they don't vibrate up?

Thanks

DO NOT CUT THE ROOF. WHY destroy the integrity of the rubber???? Just cut a few squares of eternabond and install OVER the offending screw heads. That will keep the screws from coming thru and give extra padding for the existing rubber. Doug
Thanks Doug, glad this caught your eye. I just applied roof treatment on my 01 Fleetwood and for the first time, I found two screws popping up at the front end of the MH. Eternabond is on order.
  • Glue is fine, but if the screw hole is stripped out (like overtightened screw with a power tool until the threads destroyed the wood), start with wood toothpicks or wood matches to tighten up the hole.
  • You screw them out, coat them with Gorilla Glue and the put the Ebond patch over the 1/4 inch slit the screw came out and back into

x2. If the roof is slit and the screws are tightened down, what keeps them from popping right back up?
  • I would slit the roof, back that screw out and see if the threads are rusty. If so, you have water getting in somehow and somewhere. If the threads are clean, snug the screw up and patch the slit with a small piece of Eternabond.

That's what I would do, just cover them up with Eternabond Tape.

  • If out of warranty I would just cut a tiny slit on top of the screw head, tighten it back down, and use the appropriate sealer over the slit.
  • How old is your Trailer? Is it still under warranty? If so, bring it back and have the dealer fix it, if not then you can if you feel comfortable to do the job yourself.
  • Cut roof, screw them back down and use a sealant meant for your roof material to seal. Heck, you have a lot of holes through the roof material for vents, antenna, A/C's, end caps, etc.

All need to be properly sealed.

And, if the screws to not tighten up, use wood toothpick or wood match to tighten up the hole.
