Seat Belt will not retract

Hi:
Does anyone know of something that I can put on the seatbelt to make it retract more easily? It works but it needs assistance to get it to retract. It appears to be binding a bit on the top of the belt above the shoulder.

  • If you have any warranty left on the drive train of your vehicle, seat belts or any other safety item will be replaced by dealer under warranty. Worth checking into. Suzuki Grand Vitara's seat belts quit retracting in short time, I had mine replaced twice under warranty.

That seems to be the main cause of this sort of difficulty in my class C...though presumably the fact that the seat belt mechanism and return spring are approaching 20 years of age doesn't help anything.

Where might you buy new ones?

I assume you mean buying new springs/mechanisms? I've never tried, but I would imagine a Ford dealer could easily obtain them (in my case, at least, since I have a Ford chassis). They're the standard E-series parts. Perhaps standard auto parts places or JC Whitney etc. could also supply them.

The seatbelt retracts nicely if I first pull it through the part on the top.
