A number of years back a friend of the family thought about giving up his business because of the number and quantum of lawsuits claiming product defect and negligence.

He consulted a lawyer, said lawyers advice was simple, triple the sale price.

Put 1/3rd the money into a kitty to pay out lawsuits to go away, 1/3rd to cover the cost of the first category, and 1/3rd for the price of his product itself.

The end result? He's making more money than ever!!!

I'm pretty sure this chain is no different, given the price of it.
  • I have a measly 1.5 meter length of hexagon shaped chain that has defied everything thrown at it since I got it at the Lockheed Orbiter liquidation sale in Palmdale. It destroyed a jeweler's diamond cutting wheel in seconds. Forty bucks down the old -------.

Pat Tuminaro, the Snap-On tool dealer could not believe it. The wheel went shrapnel. About a month later we went to lunch again, and he remarked "I checked with one of my friends (Lockheed) and he said the steel alloy had bits of tungsten embedded in it."

    Well, that settled that...

I can't even imagine how much that chain cost the government. Way out of reach. But I did see the locks. Look like a fat U with the bolt hidden.

But I'll save my money. When I go to load the toad roof rack I'll thread 1/8" marine stainless cable into a spiderweb and secure it inside a welded on three sided box.

Crooks are not very high tech down here.
  • No security chain is going to last long against an angle grinder and someone who knows what they are doing with it.
  • The grinder guy had the tool in his hands first time in his life and he used grinding wheel for cutting that is why took him full minute.
I usually use diamond blades for such a job and do it under 10 seconds.

The question is - what good is the chain if you can cut the lock?

Cutting +1/2" boron chain (13mm) and expensive lock: Video. Read comments, though the video is self-explanatory without translation.

    Chain survived. About $US25/foot.

What do you need to lock with $150 chain - a $60 Cilindro de Propano?
