Short stop circuit breaker

I could use a bit of electrical advice. My new travel trailer has a blown circuit breaker. The short stop mounted on the tongue. I have gotten a replacement, but I didn't take note of where the ground wire goes. Do I mount it to the frame or on the circuit breaker itself? I do not see any paint removed to insure a good ground connection, so I am thinking it goes on the circuit breaker itself. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.
  • If the breaker has different colored studs, the copper colored stud connects to the battery. Although after seeing the inside of one, I really don't see why it matters.
  • Some little breakers even get fancy with two different color studs. Copper and plated steel. To be nerdish the studs on all breakers are oriented by how tall they are: battery inlet goes onto the short stud and from the longer stud a wire exits going to the load to be protected.
  • Ground wire is typically white and goes from negative battery to frame.
Battery positive is typically black or colored and connects to the copper terminal of the shortstop.
  • Well, this one is blown, anyways it's non-functional. I think I have it sorted out. I'm still learning as I go.

    Thanks.
  • What Old-Bisquit said. No ground wire involved. And a Short Stop circuit breaker does not "blow". In the event of an overload, it will heat up and open the internal contacts to break the circuit.

Some of these are auto reset types, meaning that as soon as the circuit opens and the breaker has time to cool (a few seconds), it will automatically close the circuit and try again. Some are manual reset and should have a reset push button on top.
  • Ground wire :H

Short Stop CB is a 'circuit breaker' used instead of a fuse

Main battery cable POS goes on on stud and the output POS cable going to DC Panel goes on other stud of that CB (Power in/power out)

No ground involved wiring of that CB
Ground (NEG from battery) should go to frame....clean spot and secured with a bolt.
