Shurflo water pump problem

Hi all. Ok I've done some searching on the forum about this but I can't find a similar issue so I'll post it. I have an 09 PW class B. I am getting ready for a short trip tomorrow and all of a sudden my water pump is not working properly. After sanitizing my fresh water tank, I turned on the water pump and faucets to drain the fresh tank into the grey tank. I was plugged into shore power and the water pump was making it's usual noise going on and off as usual when I opened the faucets but the water flow was less than half the normal flow. It took forever to drain my 24 gallon fresh water tank into the grey tank. I looked at the pump and there are no leaks and I have not changed anything since I last used the RV and the water pump was working fine. I did not change the valve settings on my water heater because I don't have to winterize my RV here. So some thing has happened to cause a sudden decrease in the water flow. The faucets work and toilet flushes but the flow is very low now. We are leaving tomorrow on a short trip and it is Sunday so I can't get parts. But we will mostly be connected to city water at the RV park so I won't be using the water pump much except if we go to some picnic spots. Anybody got any ideas on what the problem could be? I got out the owners manual and it is a Shurflo series 2088/2093 water pump that is now about four years old but not used that much. Thanks, Don.

  • I just flushed out and drained the fresh water tank at the valve on the tank two times then added more water to the tank and took the aerators off the faucets, turned on the water pump and ran the water and after about a minute the water pump started to work fine, turning off when the faucets are off. Apparently whatever was plugging the diaphragms flushed out the faucets when the aerators were off. I replaced the aerators and all is well. From now on, due to our hard water issue, I will flush out the fresh tank and drain it at the valve twice a year. I think it will prevent the problem I had. Thanks all for the tips......Don.
  • Hey you guys are smart. I knew I joined the right forum. Guess what both the faucet aerators were plugged with junk (calcium carbonate). I know what happened, when I filled my fresh tank with water, I must have had the hose on too high and stirred up some stuff that then got into the faucet aerators and plugged both of them. I cleaned them out and got full pressure. Problem solved, but now unfortunately the water pump will not shut off with the faucets off because some of the same stuff probably got into the valves. We have very hard water here so it probably is calcium carbonate. I guess I'll also be learning how to take apart a water pump to clean the valves. I also will be flushing out and draining the fresh water tank from the spigot on the tank. Thanks all! Don

  • I turned on my pump and had 'no' water. Called mobile RV repair........he took off the faucet aerator and voila water. :S

What's the law of average that sand could fill every one of those darn holes in an aerator? It did in mine.
  • Check suction strainer at pump inlet.
    Also remove/clean all faucet aerators

Could have stirred up junk in tank that got sucked up.

Also pull pump head and clean diaphragms.
