Silverado 2500b hd

I have a 07 Silverado classic 2500 hd Duramax single axle what is the difference between that and a 3500 single axle We have 5er that weighs 11400 but the boss wants a new 5er that is 12900 lbs???????????
  • Decal freaks BFL, they read six paragraphs are they is an x-pert.

    Weigh the two @#$%^! trucks. Got it?

    If the one ton is 1,500 lbs heavier, it ain't cause the seat padding is thicker. Man I think we as kids 50+ years ago were savvier than some of these folks are today. Unable to think...

    The towing capacity of the Chevy 2500HD depends on the engine/drive train. My 2009 2500HD with the Duramax diesel is rated to tow up to 15,500 lbs, the same year 3500HD is rated at 17,500 (I believe). But, the same truck with the gasoline engine is only rated at 9500 lbs towing capacity.

    I tow my 5th wheel that is 11,500 (empty) with no problem.

    This is exactly the type of response that happens all the time over in the towing vehicle forum on this topic. Totally uniformed or mis-informed.

    People end up with the pin weight of the 5er overloading their truck because they do not understand the weight rating system. Or else they know, but blow smoke that it doesn't matter if they do overload their truck.

    It never ends! This belongs in the towing vehicle forum and out of sight of the nice tech issues folks, who never get into such silly arguments, since we actually know stuff. :)

  • Auto parts store

    See if ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings and brakes are interchangeable. If not, they are different animals from the frame, up.

    The "classic" means it is the same as back to the 2003 models. The 3500 single came in a couple years later, then the mid 2007s changed the game somewhat.

    The classic 2500HD and the classic 3500 single, are different by about ISTR 450 lbs carrying weight in the box, but have the same pulling power depending on engine and transmission. The fatter 265 tires than the 245s are heavier on the 3500 and the other heavier components eat up some of the extra GVWR so that rated GVWR difference is more than the actual difference in carrying capacity.

    The 2500HD with Diesel can pull more than the gas version, but the box will be way over-loaded. The 3500 only helps with that a little bit.

    People do it anyway, so you get all those threads over on the towing vehicle forum where people say it is ok to go way over the truck's ratings and other people saying they are idiots.

    It never ends, so have fun over there with this old chestnut about 2500HDs and 5ers. :)
  • My 04 f250 is the same as a srw f350. Our truck handles our 5er rather well. Our trailer is 13,500 lbs loaded.
  • 2500HD=9200 GVWR
    3500= 9900GVWR
