Ever think about putting a wind up timer on a Megawatt. The timer switches a pot. When the timer is actvated it enables a relay. The relay shunts the voltage through the resistor. Set the pot at whatever voltage you want. When the timer runs down the Mega defaults down to 13.4 or whatever voltage you wish and it stays there. A six-hour windup intermatic timer works great for this. The timer can be set fro 0-6 hours.
Since my particular RV batteries require only two charging ranges (boost, and combination bulk/float) ... what David describes above exactly states why I wanted in our RV the Parallax converter model that they discontinued some time before our RV was manufactured: The Parallax "T" series converters that ALWAYS started out in a boost charging range and held it for four(4) hours, then dropped - via a dumb internal timer - to bulk range charging as long as power was supplied to the converter un-interrupted. Whenever the converter's input power was interrupted the cycle repeated itself no matter what a designer thought that the battery might want or need. Unless there was a power outage, whether or not to repeat the cycle was under user control by turning the converter's input power ON or OFF.
Where or where is K.I.S.S. Old-Tech when you want it!!
