I have a disturbing habit of re-reading the original post. Almot requested a potential of 10-12 amperes. A maintenance charger. One twist of a screwdriver blade and set voltage to 13.4 and walk away. Top charging and equalization require hands-on monitoring and control.
Battery maintenance charging isn't Rocket Science. The reality has been so hyped, screwed-up and made mystical by the boys with paisley shirts and fluorescent ties that the brainwash is set in concrete. Believe it or not with monthly top charging 13.4 volts is "good enough" from around 45F to 95F. How hard is it to reset voltage regulation twice-per-year?
I can set voltages on Cheapos, megas, and meanies in 10-seconds flat. And I'm a cripple. How hard is it to magic marker a sign with temps of -10F, +20F, +60F and +90F ? This covers 99% of North America. Point Barrow and Death Valley Junction may have to substitute their own highs and lows.
Now to get back to designing a mechanism that opens the refrigerator door and pitches me a soft drnk from the comfort of my La Z Boy recliner. Oh yeah the option - if I stop breathing it dials 911.
