sleep number bed

am fixing to take delivery of a 2006 mandalay 39d. I plan to put a sleep number bed. is there a difference between a sleep number rv bed and a regular sleep number bed. I don't know the difference but camping world refers their sleep number bed as an rv. is there a difference. is there any experience of what model to purchase. we spend about 80 nights a year in the rv. the old rv had a sleep number for a short queen. the new rv is a regular queen. thanx so much for any replys. bobby
  • From what I could gather at the Sleep Number website it has to do with the Fire Retardant ratings for beds in an RV, which are different than for a stick and brick house. The other difference is the RV bed comes without a base unit.

  • I have sleep numbers in the house and both rv's.

I can tell you that the sleep number beds for the home have 3 or 4 different levels of toppers.. from fairly thin (similar to what comes on the rv bed) to if I remember right even a memory foam topper.

The RV model I have the topper is not as thick as the one at the house.. but it adjusts just the same. My RV bed only has one remote but that hasn't been a problem.. the one at home only had one remote also but I opted for a 2nd remote. The air pump seems smaller on the RV model but works well.

Remember that if you travel from low altitude to a higher altitude to let some air out of the bed before you travel...

Also the pump is 110v only.. so boon-docking can be a problem if you need to adjust your pressure without a 110v hookup.. I have to just run the genny for a few mins if I need to adjust the pressure.
  • We really like our sleep number after going through a number of regular mattresses. My DW wanted more padding on the top so we got a 2" foam pad to put on top of the sleep number mattress. She's happy although I would have preferred to not have the extra pad.

DW unzipped and put our 2" pad just under the topper that came with the sleep number and zipped it back up. It sleep so good we did it to our other 2 SN beds
  • Our Maui condo had a sleep number bed and it was fantastic. My number is 65. lol
