Sleeper Sofa/air mattress set up

I have a 5thwheel with a sleeper sofa/air mattress and it is one of the worse sleeping beds. The way you flip the bottom over nothing is never level from the middle to the top or the bottom. I have adjusted the handle to level the outer side but the inner is never level. I added a piece of 1/4in ply to the one side but it did not help. The webbing idea does not work. Any suggestions
  • We have an air mattress/sofa bed also. We haven't had a problem with it... yet. The 5er is a 2009. I've slept on it when the grandchildren are with us. My son and daughter in law have slept on it and haven't complained. The mattress stays inside the sofa when it's folded up. In the cooler weather it seems to loose some air but not enough to worry about. We've been lucky with it....I guess. The jack knife we had in our old toy hauler was a back killer.
  • I have never seen a hide a bed that was comfortable. I now have thick padded jackknife sofas. Much better.

One of the beds also had a small leak and would deflate throughout the night, very annoying. If we kept our old unit we either would have changed out the hide a beds with a true mattress or purchased inflatables for the floor. I would just use mattress on the floor, lot more comfortable than than the couch. Best of luck with this as I feel your pain.

  • Have you adjusted the support that holds up the foot of the bed. On ours there were washers and plastic spacers you can remove to adjust the height. Ours were toe high and had to adjust them. The kids quit using them and just slept on the couch after the rear backs were removed, much more comfortable. New fiver has a foam bed in the couch so hopefully more comfortable.
  • Put the air mattress on the floor and forget setting up the sofa-bed. Sounds like we have the same type of sofa-bed, and I agree. The mattress on the bed-setup is horrible. Last time my adult son came along with us, he tried the couch and the floor. He preferred the floor. When we tested ourselves, we preferred the floor.

Because we have only 1 bed in our TT, we need the availability to set up a second bed somewhere. We very seldom (like only 1 time) have we had another person camp with us. So we are thinking a nice camping air mattress with an electric pump (something 6 inches thick or more) would be a much better than that thin thing that came with the couch.

A thicker air mattress on that sofa-bed just might take out the lumps and unevenness, but definitely would work better on the floor. So, we think, if we ever have a guest again, we're going out first and getting a new air mattress.
