I think Mex wants electric because he may think that he knows all that there is to know about use of propane in small efficient propane grills when on the road. Maybe there is still more that can be learned from forum discussions like this.
One reason I prefer a small propane grill over a small electric grill is the propane grill probably will get hotter than a 1500 watt electric grill if left turned ON longer than an electric grill. In our case, I never clean our small propane powered Weber grill - I just get it really hot (using only the little green propane bottles) before each use so as to turn to grey carbon any and all gunk that may be left over on the grill bars from the last use. I'm then good to go with a clean and completely sanitized grill.
For pre-use cleaning purposes, perhaps someone could provide the BTU-maximum differences between two comparable sized small portable grills - one powered by propane and one powered by 1500 watts of electricity?
P.S. I could be wrong ... for cleaning purposes maybe 120V AC electricity can get as hot as green propane bottle flames.
