Solar panel fuse

We have a single solar panel that came with the RV from the factory. It is dead. I plan on adding Windy Nation panels and want to use the wires currently in place from that panel. This Southwind has nothing available for it and the support cuts off online at 1998 for downloads. Yes I called Fleetwood and all that is available is engine wiring diagrams. I imagine that there is a fuse some place inline with the solar panel. Also would help a lot to know where the panel wire goes since I have a solar controller to add in also. Has anyone tinkered with this? 97 Southwind Storm 35S
Thanks

  • Follow hot lead from the battery bank. Should be a fuse within a couple of feet from there. I am in the process of adding solar to mine and that seems to be typical placement.
  • Seeing as that solar panel is for a trickle charge only I doubt that there is a fuse inline. Also the wires are more than likely very small gauge, not sufficient for larger Windy Nation panels.
  • My WindyNation system works great. I suggest you use new wiring from panels to batteries of the appropriate size....i.e. big! And fuse.
  • The 3 amp fuse for your factory solar panel is in the battery control center. Black metal box built by RV Custom Products. Should be under the hood on your vintage. Wiring print is on the back side of the cover. The LED lamp indicator, for the OEM solar, inside your coach, is subject to fail. It is combined with 3 diodes to make it glow. Wiring print available if needed.
The factory wires are just barely large enough for the factory 5 watt panel.
Do NOT use the already installed wires. They are to small.
Consider running the new larger wires down the refrigerator vent.
